Classic or Enhanced: the first choice you make in WoW: Forever

· by Davina Asaria

Blizzard released a New Player's Starter Guide for WoW: Forever. Most of it is the basics (quests, bags, trainers), but one part was new to us: the Experience Preset. The very first time you log in, you pick one, even before you choose your ruleset. And you only see that screen once.

Classic or Enhanced

Classic gives you the original feel, with less help on screen:

  • Standard Definition character models
  • No quest markers or objective areas on the map
  • One-bag off, transmog off
  • Keyboard turns your camera (the old way)
  • The classic UI layout

Enhanced gives you the modern look and more help:

  • High Definition character models
  • Quest markers and objective areas on
  • One-bag on, transmog on
  • Keyboard strafes instead of turning
  • A centralized UI layout

Don't worry too much about it: the preset is only a starting point. Every setting can be changed later under Game Menu > Options. Blizzard advises Enhanced if you're not sure. Want to discover the world the old fashioned way, without quest markers? Pick Classic.

Other handy things from the guide

What this means for Legends of Azeroth

Veterans in the guild will probably go for Classic and turn on a few things they miss. New to WoW? Take Enhanced and enjoy the help. Either way: see you on Wednesday November 4!

Bonus: Planet Azeroth with Bill Bailey

Blizzard also started a new video series: Planet Azeroth, a nature documentary about the creatures of Azeroth, narrated by British comedian Bill Bailey. Episode 1 is about murlocs and kobolds. Something to watch while we wait.
