Profession tips for WoW: Forever: what every Horde player should know
Professions in WoW: Forever are a lot more than in Classic. Every profession now does something for you and for your camp, and a few things moved around. Here is what we learned from the beta.
Keep in mind: all of this comes from the beta, so numbers and details can still change at launch.
The big change: healing potions are First Aid now
- Healing potions moved from Alchemy to First Aid. Every character can learn First Aid, so everyone can make their own potions.
- The recipes use a vial, a herb (Peacebloom, Briarthorn, Bruiseweed and higher) and spices you buy from trade goods vendors, like Mild Spices and Hot Spices.
- First Aid also gets new curatives: an Anti-Venom against poison and a Simple Poultice and Woolen Tourniquet against bleeds and diseases. You can't use those in combat.
- Bandages still come from cloth, so keep your Linen, Wool and Silk.
Our advice: every character learns First Aid, no matter which main professions you pick.
Every profession has its own bonus
In Classic a profession only gave you recipes. In Forever every primary profession also gives a personal bonus:
- Mining: 5% more total health, and extra ore from nodes.
- Skinning: 5% more damage against Beasts and Dragonkin.
- Herbalism: extra resistance to all magic schools, growing with your skill, and more herbs per node.
- Alchemy: your own elixirs and flasks last longer and are stronger (potions are not affected), plus a Philosopher's Stone trinket that grows with your skill.
- Blacksmithing: belt buckles for your own belt, and a free Repair All on a cooldown.
- Enchanting: ring enchants that only you can use.
- Engineering: a belt with three gadget charges, like a short teleport or a speed boost, plus the Goblin or Gnomish specialization.
- Leatherworking: armor kits for your bracers and a saddle for a bit of extra mount speed.
- Tailoring: embroidery for your own cloak, and a chance for extra cloth from humanoids.
Blizzard showed these at BlizzCon. Not every number was visible in the beta yet, so we will update this list when the game is live.
Camp objects
Every profession gets three camp objects for your campfire, unlocked around skill 20, 140 and 300. The more advanced blueprints drop from dungeon bosses. A few examples:
- Leatherworking: the Camp Tent for rested experience.
- Fishing: the Fish Bowl, 8% more stats for everyone at the fire.
- Mining: a Rock Garden and a Molten Foundry.
- Herbalism: a Greenhouse.
And Cooking lights the campfire itself. Crafted food now also gives about 5% more experience per kill. Everything about camping: https://legendsofazeroth.com/news/camping-in-wow-forever-what-every-profession-brings-to-the-campfire
Waylaid Supplies and Merchant's Favor
- Monsters in the world sometimes drop a Waylaid Supply crate. Each crate asks for one of several sets of materials.
- Fill it and hand it in at Durotar Supply and Logistics, our Horde supply camp.
- You get Merchant's Favor, a currency for extra recipes. Many recipes also need reputation with the camp, which you earn with Craftsman's Writs.
- Found a crate? Keep it. They are rare, so check every material option before you start farming.
Handy tricks
- Fishing isn't in your spellbook. Open your professions with K and drag Fishing to your action bar.
- In the starting zones, quests give you handbooks for Mining, Herbalism and Skinning that teach the profession and add a few free skill points.
- Mining nodes take several hits and you can share them with a group member.
- Cooking certain fish also raises your fishing skill. All about fishing: https://legendsofazeroth.com/news/is-fishing-worth-it-in-wow-forever-seven-reasons-to-pick-it-up
- Reach 300 in a crafting profession and you earn a title for your whole account.
- Need gold early? Take two gathering professions, sell what you don't use, sell bind on equip drops and skip trainer ranks you don't need yet.
Which combination?
- Leveling and gold: Mining and Skinning, or Herbalism and Skinning.
- Take care of yourself: Herbalism and Alchemy.
- Plate and mail: Mining and Blacksmithing. Leather and mail: Skinning and Leatherworking.
- PvP: Engineering with Mining is the favourite.
- Casters: Tailoring and Enchanting.
And always the three secondary professions: First Aid, Cooking and Fishing. You can have all three next to your two main professions. Planning your route to 60 as well? Read our leveling guide: https://legendsofazeroth.com/news/how-to-level-a-horde-character-fast-in-wow-forever
What this means for Legends of Azeroth
A guild with every profession covered can build a complete camp on every trip and craft its own gear and consumables. Tell us in the profession forums which professions you're going to pick, so we can see where we still have gaps!
