Warlockguy wins the Forever Open

· by Davina Asaria

The Forever Open is over, and it ended in style. After a whole weekend of level 30 Horde duels, the champion of the $100,000 tournament is Warlockguy, an Undead Warlock. He takes home $50,000.

The road to the title

  • In the upper bracket semi final Warlockguy lost to fellow Warlock Neepzen and dropped to the lower bracket. One more loss and he would have been out.
  • He fought his way back and won the lower bracket final 2 to 0 against Shaman Cdewx.
  • In the grand final (best of five, no bracket reset) he met Neepzen again, and this time won 3 to 1.

Final standings

  • 🥇 Warlockguy (Undead Warlock)
  • 🥈 Neepzen (Undead Warlock), unbeaten until the grand final
  • 🥉 Cdewx (Orc Shaman)
  • 4th Oddwaffletv (Orc Shaman)

Two Warlocks and two Shamans in the top 4. Druid Minpojke and Paladin Azzu got furthest of their class, both finishing shared 5th.

And Sodapoppin?

Sodapoppin, as a Tauren Druid, won his first duel against Hunter Ryhaz. After that he lost to Neepzen in the upper bracket and to Priest Nieze in the lower bracket.

Class prizes

On top of the main prize, the best placed player of every class wins $5,555. When players of the same class drop out in the same round, that prize is split between them.

Update: the numbers

After the tournament the statistics came out, and they confirm what we saw:

  • Warlocks won 79% of their duels at level 30. The top two places both went to a Warlock.
  • Mages (25%) and Warriors (27%) had the lowest win rates.
  • Popular trinkets were the Transformative Cocoon and the Goblin Mortar. That mortar blew up in its owner's face more often than it helped.
  • After the final, Blizzard gave the finalists their own corner of Mount Hyjal, where the Tauren Chieftains played live and Azuregos showed up as a surprise.

What this means for Legends of Azeroth

Warlocks look scary at level 30, so watch out for Fear and DoTs out in the world. And Shamans showed they can duel with the best. Who are you rolling at launch? Tell us in Discord!
