The GDKP ban only applies to North America and Europe
In an interview with 4Gamers Taiwan, Clay Stone and Holly Longdale talked about WoW: Forever, and one of the big topics was GDKP. The news: the GDKP ban only applies to the North American and European realms.
Why GDKP is banned
At BlizzCon 2026 Blizzard already announced that GDKP raids (where loot is auctioned for gold and the pot is split) will not be allowed in WoW: Forever. The reasons:
- It hurts the social side of raiding.
- Players with less gold can be priced out of content completely.
- It pushes people to buy gold, which damages the economy and helps bad actors launder gold.
Clay Stone now made clear that the ban counts for NA and EU only, and not for other regions. Earlier GDKP bans, in Season of Discovery and on the Anniversary realms, worked the same way.
More gold than in Classic
Clay also talked about the economy:
- Buying items at the auction house is a core part of the game.
- Right now players in WoW: Forever don't have the optimised gold farming methods of original Classic.
- That is why players will earn a lot more gold than in original Classic.
- Blizzard learned a lot about managing the economy, for example by letting vendors sell Black Lotus at a price capped at 50 gold.
What this means for Legends of Azeroth
We play on EU, so no GDKP for us. That suits us fine: we raid together, and loot goes to the people who need it. Combined with the hard line against bought gold (read: https://legendsofazeroth.com/news/over-2-100-gold-buying-accounts-banned-on-the-wow-forever-beta), it looks like a healthy economy for normal players.
