Over 2,100 gold buying accounts banned on the WoW: Forever beta

· by Davina Asaria

Blizzard keeps its promise to be tough on real money trading (RMT) in WoW: Forever, even on the beta. In episode 3 of the WoW: Forever Podcast, Senior Game Designer Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield shared some numbers.

The numbers

  • More than 2,100 accounts that bought gold on the beta have been closed.
  • Almost 1,600 accounts that sold gold or botted have been closed.
  • And they will keep improving their detection over time.

Blizzard already said at the start that they would not only go after sellers, but also after the buyers. Their stance hasn't changed: they will not tolerate it.

A new warning when you trade

In a future update, the confirmation window you get when you trade with someone gets an extra line: be sure you know where your gold is coming from. A similar warning is planned for when you accept a trade or mail.

Blizzard stresses they don't want to scare anyone. They say they have become very good at telling normal trades apart from bought gold. Tipping a Mage for a portal or paying for a craft is fine. What they are after is gold that comes from a real money deal.

What this means for Legends of Azeroth

Simple: we never buy gold, and we don't trade with people who sell it. Need gold for your epic mount or a craft? Ask in the guild, we help each other out.
