The WoW: Forever beta in numbers: 8.8 million characters and a very dangerous Kobold

· by Davina Asaria

The beta is over and Blizzard has done the math. On October 30 the official Warcraft account thanked everyone who played and shared the beta by the numbers. Some of them are impressive, some of them are just funny.

The numbers

  • 8,862,354 characters created. That is a lot of alts for a beta that ran for a few weeks.
  • 9,959,014 PvP kills. Almost ten million.
  • 1,248,125 duels fought. Half of Orgrimmar's gate was probably one long duel.
  • 1,889,084 Skyborne. The new race was clearly a hit.
  • 612,096 Forsaken Paladins. One of the new class combinations for the Horde, and a very popular one.
  • 1,157,204 deaths from falling. Gravity remains undefeated.

The deadliest places and monsters

  • Deadliest dungeon: The Hall of Thanes. One of the new Forever dungeons, for level 13 to 18. Many beta players found out the hard way that it's no walk in the park.
  • Deadliest creature: the Kobold Miner. Yes, really. The small, candle-wearing kobold from the mines. Blizzard joked that villagers now speak about it in hushed tones.
  • Zone with the most PvP: Hillsbrad Foothills. Some things never change. Tarren Mill against Southshore is still the place to be for world PvP.

What this means for Legends of Azeroth

Almost nine million characters in a beta tells you one thing: launch night on November 4 will be busy. Expect full starting zones and queues for quest mobs. Our Forsaken Paladins are clearly not alone, so be ready to share those Holy Light buffs. And for the Hall of Thanes: go in with a full group and a healer who pays attention.

Never trust a kobold that says you no take candle.
