The three raids of WoW: Forever, and the Horde road to Onyxia

· by Davina Asaria

On December 9 the raids of WoW: Forever open for level 60 players. Blizzard shared where they are, how many players you need, and the full attunement for Onyxia's Lair. Here is everything, with the Horde route written out step by step.

At a glance

  • Barrow Deeps: 10 players, 8 bosses. Inside Mount Hyjal, with entrances from Mount Hyjal, Winterspring and Blackmaw Hold.
  • Hyjal Summit: 20 players, 13 bosses. At the top of Mount Hyjal, near the World Tree Nordrassil.
  • Onyxia's Lair: 40 players. Dustwallow Marsh. You need the Drakefire Amulet to enter.

Hidden beneath Kalimdor lies the prison that held Illidan Stormrage for 10,000 years. Its dark halls are open now, and you go down to find out what happened to those left behind, and how the wardens plan to keep the danger below contained. Several entrances, through Mount Hyjal, Winterspring and Blackmaw Hold, lead into the prison, where eight bosses wait for a group of ten.

At the top of Mount Hyjal, near Nordrassil, lies the biggest raid of the three: 13 bosses. It starts with a fight against an ancient guardian. After that your raid chooses its own route across the mountain, through ruins above and below ground, until the way to the final bosses opens up.

Onyxia's Lair

Deep in Dustwallow Marsh, Onyxia, black dragon and younger sister of Nefarian, guards her brood. It's a three phase fight with heavy fire attacks, so collect fire resistance before you go in and be ready to move as the fight changes. Everyone in the raid needs the Drakefire Amulet in their bags.

The Horde road to the Drakefire Amulet

Start on time, take friends along for the elite quests and plan a few trips into Blackrock Spire.

  1. Badlands: pick up "Blood and Thunder" from Warlord Goretooth in Kargath.
  2. "Warlord's Command" sends you through Lower Blackrock Spire.
  3. Goretooth sends you to Eitrigg in Orgrimmar, and then on to Thrall.
  4. "For the Horde!": back into Lower Blackrock Spire for the head of Warchief Rend Blackhand.
  5. Listen to Thrall in "What the Wind Carries", then find Rexxar on the roads of Desolace for "The Champion of the Horde".
  6. "The Testament of Rexxar": bring his testament to Myranda the Hag in the Western Plaguelands.
  7. "Oculus Illusions": Myranda wants Black Dragonspawn Eyes.
  8. "Emberstrife": use the Amulet of Draconic Subversion to find the ancient drake Emberstrife in Dustwallow Marsh.
  9. Emberstrife tests you four times with "The Test of Skulls": bring him the skulls of Scryer, Somnus, Chronalis and Axtroz.
  10. "Ascension..." gives you the Dull Drakefire Amulet. Take it back to Rexxar in Desolace.
  11. "Blood of the Black Dragon Champion": take the blood from General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire.
  12. Return to Rexxar and receive the Drakefire Amulet.

The Alliance has its own route through the Burning Steppes, Blackrock Depths and Stormwind, and ends in Upper Blackrock Spire as well.

What this means for Legends of Azeroth

Our raid nights now have a shape: Barrow Deeps with 10, Hyjal Summit with 20 and Onyxia with the whole guild. The attunement takes time and needs groups for Blackrock Spire, so once you hit 60 we'll plan attunement runs together on the calendar. And start saving fire resistance gear!
